Daniel Rynhold

Daniel Rynhold arrived on these shores from London, England, in August 2007, to take up the post of Assistant Professor of Modern Jewish Philosophy at the Bernard Revel Graduate School of Jewish Studies, Yeshiva University. He had previously held the post in Judaism in the department of Theology and Religious Studies of King's College London, following two years at the renowned Jews' College of London. Dr. Rynhold holds a B.A. in Philosophy from the University of Cambridge, an MA in Hebrew and Jewish Studies from University College London, and a PhD in Jewish Philosophy from the London School of Economics (it's a long story). His research interests often find him working at the interface between Jewish and general philosophy, and include the study of models of practical justification in Jewish and general philosophy, the significance of the work of Friedrich Nietzsche for Modern Jewish philosophy, and the serious philosophical analysis of the thought of Rabbi Joseph B. Soloveitchik. He published his first book, Two Models of Jewish Philosophy: Justifying One's Practices, in 2005 with Oxford University Press, and his second book, An Introduction to Medieval Jewish Philosophy, in March 2009. He has also published a number of articles in edited collections and journals in both medieval and modern Jewish Philosophy.
