Track 1: Seminar Leader Leora Batnitzky Mateo Aceves,(Brandeis University) is currently a junior at Brandeis University studying politics and Near Eastern and Judaic studies. Born and raised in Berkeley, CA, his research interests include Middle East security studies, Jewish legal thought, and cultural geography. In the fall, he will begin a senior honors thesis under the direction of Shai Feldman, director of the Crown Center for Middle East Studies, examining recent developments in Israeli security policy. He also serves as a research assistant for Yehuda Kurtzer, whose forthcoming book addresses the paradox of traditional collective memory and modern critical history proposed by Yerushalmi in Zachor.
