Simon GordonOxford University Summer 2009 - Track 1 (Novak) Simon is currently a second year undergraduate at Jesus College, Oxford. He is reading Philosophy and French. In French, he has been studying modern French literature and the Essais of Michel de Montaigne; he has yet to study Pascal and will be specialising in the writing of Rousseau. In Philosophy, he has been studying Locke, Leibniz, Hume, Kant, Frege, Russell and Wittgenstein; he will be writing a thesis on the later philosophy of Wittgenstein. Simon received a Distinction in his preliminary examination in French and a college Exhibition for his overall performance in preliminary examinations. He has also received the Edwyn Charles Hart prize for meritorious work and a collections prize for his performance in internal examinations. Simon grew up in Edgware, north-west London. He attended City of London School. He is a member of Kol Nefesh Masorti Synagogue in Edgware and attends the Oxford Jewish Congregation in term time; he regularly leads services. Simon was President of the Oxford University Jewish Society for the first term of this academic year. |
